GEF Live
Privacy policy
Last updated 15 October 2026 · This page is in English.
GEF Live is the official live companion to the Global Entrepreneurship Festival (GEF): the website at geflive.com and the GEF app for iPhone, iPad and Android. This policy explains what personal data GEF Live uses, why, who it’s shared with and the choices you have. It covers GEF Live only; the festival’s own website and ticketing have their own policy at globalentrepreneurshipfestival.com.
Who we are
GEF Live is run for the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, 61 Merghany Street, Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt, which decides how your data is used (the data controller). Cyclebreeze builds and operates GEF Live on the festival’s behalf. For any privacy question or request, email info@globalentrepreneurshipfestival.com.
What we collect
- From your festival ticket: your name, email address, ticket code and ticket type, which GEF Live receives from the festival’s ticketing so you can sign in. Exhibitors: the company name and the email address used to register.
- What you add: your profile (photo, title, company, sector, country, bio, links and the contact details you choose to share with connections), and your settings (language, theme, time zone).
- What you do in GEF Live: sessions you save, connections and connection requests, messages, meetings, questions you ask, poll votes, chat messages, points, and the notifications we send you.
- Your Event Pass: the QR code that identifies your ticket at the door, and your check-in records.
- GEF World: while you’re in the 3D festival grounds, your position and avatar, shown to other people there only if you choose to be visible.
- Questions to Malak: what you ask the GEF assistant, to answer it.
- Your device: a notification token if you turn on reminders (from Apple, Google or your browser), the app version, and the cookies that keep you signed in and remember your settings.
We don’t collect your location, contacts, photos library or advertising identifier, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. The camera is used only when you scan a badge or QR code, and images never leave your device.
How we use it
- To sign you in and show the festival to you: the programme, your Event Pass, your agenda and live updates.
- To let you network: other attendees see the profile you share, and your contact details only after you both accept a connection.
- To send the notifications you turn on: session reminders, messages and festival announcements.
- To run the festival safely: check-in at the door, moderating questions and chat, and preventing abuse.
- To understand how GEF Live is used, from our own aggregated statistics. We use no third-party analytics or advertising.
We use your data because it’s needed to provide the service you signed up for with your festival ticket, because you chose to share it (your profile, notifications), and for the festival’s legitimate interest in running a safe event.
How long we keep it
We keep your GEF Live account for the festival and up to 12 months after it, so you can see your connections and recordings, then delete or anonymise it. Notification tokens are deleted when you sign out, delete your account, or when Apple or Google tell us they no longer work. Backups are encrypted and replaced within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile or hide it from the people directory at any time.
- Turn notifications off in the app or in your phone’s settings.
- Delete your account in the app (account menu, then Delete my account) or at geflive.com/account/delete.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to stop using it, by emailing info@globalentrepreneurshipfestival.com. We answer within 30 days.
- If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
GEF Live is served only over HTTPS. Sign-in uses one-time codes, sessions are kept in secure cookies, and the app keeps its copy of your session in your phone’s secure storage (Keychain on iPhone and iPad, Keystore on Android).
Children
GEF Live is for festival ticket holders and isn’t directed at children under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date above, and tell you in GEF Live if the change is significant.
